crackdown

A state of martial law has been declared in north central Guatemala, in the department of Alta Verapaz:

Thankfully, I live nowhere near this area. However, Peace Corps volunteers are getting evacuated right now, and will be relocated for at least the next two weeks....crazy, right?

  1. Crazy. Only two weeks?... But the allotted military impunity is for a month... I'll bet this whole thing lasts longer.

  2. Yeah, I bet it'll last longer too. It's hard to guess what will happen - things are notoriously unpredictable here. All I know is that a couple of volunteers were bussed out of their sites yesterday and are now spending the holidays with Carolina....who knows for how long.
